Frequently Asked Questions
Confidentiality is essential in building trust and counselling works best if clients feel safe to speak openly about themselves and their difficulties. In most circumstances confidentiality is complete and I would not break confidentiality without informing you first. There are a very few, extreme exceptions and I will explain those to you during your first visit.
Is counselling confidential?
I am an Accredited member of BACP, my training was BACP approved and I work to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I can be found on their Register. This means that I attend regular professional supervision and undertake continuous professional development. I have a clear record with Disclosure Scotland
Am I a safe practitioner?
Each session lasts 60 minutes. It is usually helpful to attend once a week for a few weeks initially, and sometimes it can take a lot longer. I tailor the amount of sessions to individual needs and I am flexible; there is no minimum or maximum number of sessions.
How many sessions will you need?
How much does it cost?
If you cancel a session more than 48 hours in advance, there is no charge. If you cancel 24-48 hours in advance, I charge £20. If you cancel within 24 hours of the session, I charge the full amount.
What if you cancel a session or don't turn up?
Can you have counselling on the telephone? The first session must be conducted face to face, but thereafter, telephone sessions can help if you are unable to come to see me every time.
